Accused of Truth is a joint special newspaper edition created by Batumelebi and Netgazeti in support of Georgian journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli. For more than 21 years, she has reported on corruption, misuse of public funds, and abuse of power under three different governments, maintaining the same journalistic standards throughout.
On 12 January 2025, during protests in Batumi, Mzia was arrested after slapping the city’s police chief following repeated verbal abuse. She was later sentenced to two years in prison. In the weeks that followed, pro-government media and officials attempted to discredit her by branding her a “foreign agent” and “anti-government.”
Rather than respond with commentary, the two independent newsrooms chose to let her work speak for itself. The special edition is composed entirely of headlines — more than 100 of them — published under Mzia Amaghlobeli’s name across 21 years, three governments, and two newsrooms. Set in strict chronological order and presented in a minimalist, monochrome layout, the pages reveal a clear pattern: governments change, but her reporting does not. The entire edition is framed by a single line that captures the essence of the project: Accused of Truth.
10,000 copies of the newspaper were printed and distributed, alongside a digital edition created for easy access, sharing, and long-term public record.
